About
Damien Kuntz is a composer, drummer, and improviser operating at the crossroads of composition and improvisation. Rooted in sound, his practice explores various collaborations and formats without restrictions.
Born in Altkirch, France, in 1997, he studied drum set, improvisation, and composition at the Conservatory of Strasbourg (FR), and the Bern University of Arts (CH). He graduated in 2025 with two master's degrees, one in performance and one in contemporary composition.
Damien has participated in numerous projects as a drummer and improviser, leading his own ensembles, including a trio with Daniel Hernandez on piano and Loïc Baillod on double bass. He recently formed Ensemble [[Ensemble]], combining different compositional and improvisational methods to challenge the inner workings and relationships of music-making.
Damien has received multiple scholarships and awards, and has a steadily growing discography. He has shared the stage with Ulysse Loup, Ingrid Laubrock, Anna Kalk, Stefan Schultze, and Javier Girotto, among others, and has performed in France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Estonia.
